I know this is the British coin forum but I was wondering if someone could confirm for me that a 1963 French 5 Franc is silver and if so what is its value based on the current spot price.

I have been trying to find this information on the internet but have been unsuccessful.

Thanks,

It is made of silver. According to Krause it is only worth more than melt if UNC - $5.00 or BU - $6.50.

Snowman,

Does Krause state how many grams the 5 Franc has?

Thanks,

The French switched to a new franc in 1960, 100 old francs were worth 1 new franc. The 5 franc coin was minted in silver from 1960 to 1969.It weighs 12 grams and contains .835 silver for an ASW of .3221 oz of silver.
