Awesome, thanks for sharing! I've wondered what the no engraving error actually looked like....blank as blank can be, obviously.

Well....sorry to burst your bubbles but I sent them to ICCS and they were returned saying they have been altered actually said 'Edge Altered' coins....ticked me off to the max. I paid close to $300 for the 2 of them from a guy in Trenton. I even sent him mail requesting my money back but he wont respond, I went to the police....they wouldn't do anything either. I've had them 4 years.....I cry every time I look at them....they look great to me....:(

I would post good edge pics in the variety and error section to get an opinion from the community, or even better, bring them to the toronto coin expo and get experts opinions in hand.
Feel free to call me Will.

Wizbang, oh my gosh. That the seller refused to communicate with you is definitely not a good sign. I suppose the only way of detecting if the engraving was filed off would be through careful examination, the rim slightly thinner. I agree, I'd take them in hand to a coin show or to an experienced dealer for a second opinion so a mutual discussion could take place. Otherwise I can certainly understand your disappointment, especially when there's no action taken toward fraudsters.

Wow! If someone did that just to sell again as an"error" they must have gone through a lot of work. Still no excuse for doing it though . . .

And if someone had the capabiliy to fabricate one or two, there's likely more. I've noticed these errors discussed in the past, in fact I think that's what prompted me to examine my singular Bobsled. But I don't recall anyone ever discussing the possibility of intentional manipulation. I can't really tell for sure, but are in the 2nd photo, might this be evidence of fine hairline scratches?

Hmmm. Initially only four coins were thought to have "no edge lettering" (Speed skating, Hockey, Biathlon, Free-style skiing). So is there an "official" variety for the Bobsleigh coin without edge lettering?
Does anyone have pictures to share?

If ICCS have seen these coins and pronounced them as altered, they are what they are.

In 2008 ebay warned buyers of US Presidential dollars and fraudulent removal of edge lettering, filed and polished. http://www.ebay.com/gds/FAKE-ERRORS...12845/g.html "After buying these coins please Inspect/Examine the rim of the coins with a 10X or if possible more powerful Magnifiers with proper lighting" I don't know if the edge lettering on the two type of coins is the same but the process to fake the error is likely similar. Silver is a soft metal, the Calgary Olympic coins are 92.5%, maybe the technique is as simple as using Dremel:-(

After four years, then it might be high time to plan for its permanent elimination so that when you look at your collection, it will be with a .
