I picked up a Morgan dollar on ebay recently. It's a beautiful coin, bright and clear. Unfortunately, the Morgan is sporting some serious bag marks, an especially big ding on the rim.

The auction photos for this coin were all taken top-down and were sort of small. There was no easy way for me to see just how bad the ding was in the lower rim. So, when I opened the package - surprise! Oh well. I still very much like the coin warts and all. This is one lesson learned.

Has this ever happened to you all? Auction surprises?

The hit to the tip of the nose is distracting too. Maybe you can return it?

What would the forum value this coin at?

I personally wouldn't offer anything for it, but as far as value. I would say ebay prices $30-$40, at a coin shop/show $40-$50.

It seems to be graded, what is the grade? Did the TPG miss that?

30-40 bucks max! Extremely common date, and warts as you call them.

If the coin was graded it should have been noted that there was damage (details) I think. Obvious rim damage and damage to the nose. It is often hard to tell from a photo.

Liberty looks like she's got a bloody nose. Don't worry about this too much. Bag marks go with the MS Morgan dollar territory. However, if I was selling this coin I would make sure that the photos were clear enough to showcase these blemishes. Can you link to the original listing?
