Alright so I picked a few things today at a local shop, a roll of uncirculated 1962D Franklin halves and a COMPLETE set of war time nickels.

Now the dude I buy from has been in the coin business a long time and was raised by his dad who was in the coin business a long time. I feel he can be a bit sloppy / lazy about checking out the stuff he buys from people to sell so I'm coming to you guys for some comfirmation on what I bought.

The nickels he said look like they've never been cleaned. Look like that to you guys? All the nickels except for 2 have all the steps or 3/4 of them on the Monticello. I know you can't confirm that because of picture quality; I mention this because he said whoever put this collection together did it painstakingly because of the sheer quality of the nickels. You agree? And any chance I might have counterfeits?

Now I don't know if you can tell from the picture quality but the 62d halves all look dead sexy to me. I'm not a coin expert though. Look like any are cleaned? Sorry for the image quality issues. Not a fan of this image optimizer thing

Also some of the halves weigh anywhere from 12.40 to 12.64 a gram

Hard to tell 100% from the pics..... Some of the nickels may be suspect, but there are some REALLY good examples out there that haven't been cleaned and are slabbed. It appears to be a nice set overall, and I'm curious to see other opinions.

Do they have any sort of toning? Any carbon spots?

If all are as stellar as they appear to be, I'd be pretty suspect of them.

War Nickels in unc grade are not so rare. I would be surprised to see counterfeits of such a common coin.
(Though I wouldn't put anything past the you know who's)

Great coins! I don't see any fakes in that set. Love the nickels, have yet to complete the set in unc coins. Good pickups.

Sweet !
Love that Silver War Nickel set !

Doubtful there are counterfeits there and they don't look cleaned to me, but if your coin shop guy said they were good, it sounds like you can trust his expertise....it'd be bad for his business to be dishonest (or ignorant).

I'd be putting those into my Dansco asap ! ----

Apparently my skeptical nature gets the beat of me! :)

They are gorgeous coins, and the Jefferson wartime nickels are some of my favs! Would have been pretty dang cool if the '44 were a Henning!
