I'm safely home from my annual desert walkabout ... pleased to be back contributing to the CCF.
Fully realize that the following photos are kind of like showing up at the neighbors to view a slide show of their vacation ... boring to all except the vacationer.

But ... we are a coin family ... so here goes ...
Chevelon Canyon Lake sits at 6400' in elevation on the AZ Mogillon rim ... and is closed to vehicle traffic.
Foot access to the lake is from a trailhead (rocky road) 8/10 of a mile distant at elevation 7000' ... quite steep.
My hiking buddy Robbie decided that this year we are not only taking our 60 pound packs ... but his 17' Grumman canoe into the lake ... two men to drag it down and then back up.
Photo below ... two men with packs and a canoe on
Amazon $40 set of wheels ... what could go wrong?

By the grace of God and a lot of sweat we made it to the lake ... found a lovely campsite with plenty of wood and some whiskey.

Fishing was tremendous ... the lake is a designated 'trophy' trout lake ... all fish between 10" and 14" must go back. We were the only boat on the 3 mile long lake.
I'm here with a 14.5" Brown Trout ... we ate two trout each night ... aluminum wrapped in the fire and filled with herbs. Delicious.

We paddled to the end of the 3.5 mile lake ... I'm here in the front of the boat watching the desert river flow in ...

We spent four days on the lake ... caught a lot of fish (largest my 16.5" Rainbow Trout), read books, hiked around, drank some whiskey ... and generally recharged the personal battery's with no electronic access.

I took this photo on our last day ... paddling to the take-out area ... the lake was perfectly smooth and I was indeed thrilled to view this in front of the canoe ....

The hiking grunge began again when we had to pull the boat back up the mountain ... much tougher than going down!
Here we are about 100 vertical feet above the lake ... with a long way to go.

I'm home now ... with pleasant memories of the physical work to do this ... and the true enjoyment of such an outstanding way to go un-plugged from the 24/7 world.
I commend to all of you such an adventure.
Enjoy - David
