Hello all, I'm new to the forum and typically collect ancients, however, I have an 1864 2 cent large motto that has a clear protrusion coming out to the left of the "o" in of. I don't see much on the topic anywhere, is this pretty rare? The coin is not in great shape but the mark seems certainly due to the strike. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Looks to be a simple die crack. No added value.

Nope, definitely wear. A weak strike would look a LOT different.

Thank you sir! If it's noteworthy I meant that the mark was from the strike, the condition is certainly wear, my fault for miswording. Thanks again!

It looks raised, which means that it was an artefact in the die itself. Die cracks in coins from this era are very common.

Just to clarify, a die break is not an "error;" it's called a die state. Die breaks are a normal part of the coin manufacturing process.

And yes, many coins from this era and before in U.S. coinage show die breaks.
