Forgive me, this is my first time posting photos, I read through the instructions - hope this works!

Can anyone tell me what is under this mint mark? It looks like simple discoloring, but the "shadows" seem to have an edge, and it matches the shape of the MM exactly.

Discoloration ( PMD)?
Migrated MM ( PMD)?
Doubled MM?

Something else I don't know about?

Great photos. What you are seeing is zinc showing through the copper plating.

OK, thanks. What would cause this? I'm also surprised by the exact shape of it, as it matches the MM. Almost as if the mm moved.

For the photos, last year I invested in an Olloclip 4-in-1 lense attachment for my iPhone. They market it for it's Wide-Angle and Fish-eye lens, but I bought it because if the cap is removed, you get a 10x and 15x macro lens. Add to that the "zoom" feature on the phone, and you get REALLY close pics with great focus. Getting the lighting right is sometimes difficult, so I rotate the coins and take multiple photos until I see the one I like.

During the strike the plating got broken through. Happened a lot on the 1980's zincoln cents.

I have two proof cents of this date with very similar MM anomalies.

I don't know if it is RPM, or not.

Slamnbass - I bought it for about $75 at a local electronics store (Fry's). Checkout their website: https://www.olloclip.com/
