1971-D MS Quarter

The mint mark chipped off of the prior struck coin and has been struck through on the REV 'E' in 'QUARTER'

Any suggestions on how to valuate a quirky error like this?

It could be a dropped letter error. I haven't seen a design element from one face transfer to the other face through this manner, but I'm sure it is possible.

The only way that we can help you though, is if you post some pics!

The mintmark on the die is incuse- it doesn't stick out, so it couldn't break off (other than the middle of it), but it could be a dropped letter like ErrorCoins222 said.

I'm working on borrowing a camera...My iPhone doesn't take zoom in pictures...Is that even a proper 'camera' term?

I'll have a picture up this afternoon.

BTW, the struck through mint mark shows remnants of the metal surrounding the original mint mark. Does this indicate it was chipped off?

BTW, what is a dropped mint mark?

A dropped mint mark is when a device/devices get fill with grease and debris that fill a device/area and then all of a sudden falls out on to the next coin struck leaving an indent or a blocked area.

These maybe mirrored or normal on the coin.
