Hello All. Am considering this 1896-S as a break-out candidate. The strike is not great, but then most of the 63s and 64s that I have seen have not been sharp either. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

I'd keep it as is. I don't think it'd upgrade due to weak strike and a lot of chatter on both reverse and obverse.

Appears that it will not upgrade. Not worth the risk.

You have a sweet coin there that looks 63+ to me. Only the slight strike weakness holds it back from 64. Well that and the stratospheric MS prices for this issue. PCGS liked your coin enough to put it's images on CoinFacts: http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/CoinIm....aspx?s=7244 and it appears stronger than the other 63s. I would not re-submit it unless I knew a big PCGS dealer and they submitted it for me.

This one could go either 63 or 64. The PCGS photos show a bit more of the chatter and it is significant particularly the scratch on the cheek near the chin. Doubtful they would upgrade it.

I'd keep it in the 63 slab, I don't see it upgrading.

There are too many marks on the cheek and fields for an upgrade. Keep it where it is and save some money.

I agree do not break out. If you want to test the water, send the coin to CAC, but it may not sticker because of the soft strike.

I like Slider23's idea of sending it for a CAC.

I could see maybe a MS-63+ upgrade, but I don't think you'd get MS-64.
