My rep asked me how many I wanted and I'm only a lower tier platinum MC. I took only one as I'm not into selling coins but had the impression I could have had as many as I wanted.

@MoneyPenny I did order my coin from RCM, but am frustrated at my stupidity for not ordering an extra one for my brother before they sold out. He initially said no, but now is desperate to get one. He doesn't collect too many coins, but is willing to go into debt for this one. I do believe there are others out there with his mindset. Sorry if I upset anyone about CC&C. I don't blame any individual at that store in particular. I like everyone there, and realise now that it's a flawed system with which they have to work. Hopefully they fix it one day so that the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. Yes, $1,300 is a lot of money, but my spidey senses tell me that this coin will be not only great for the collection, but also a very good investment. I could be wrong, but my guess is that anyone who loaded up on these will be very happy in the future.

Not sure about personal collection - what to do with item that holds such big amount of money, but for sure it will be great for resell. Two - three times issue? Maybe. Collectors from Europe, had no even small chance ordering it, will pay a lot of EUR (thousands maybe), to get this coin.

A gold Star Trek presale listing sold for $1682.00 and there are no more presale listings on ebay.

Sure it appears to be sold but the seller claims to ship within one business day. That should be interesting....and they don't take returns on underwear. Good to know. I thought most coin dealers did. It is concerning that so many of this forum's users have bought into the ST gold coin and it seems many fewer of the RFD crowd are on board. Did the bulk of the 1500 mintage go to folks hoping to flip them? Especially first time or occasional flippers?

Flipping any coin is a gamble CAD$1300 a coin for gambling is not suitable for everyone. Especially for people concerning selling high value item on ebay.

And having 4 months to think about it might translate into a flood of cold footed cancellation in August...especially when wives (or should that be spouses) find out.

Sure there will be some people flipping however I predict that the masses will be keeping them in their own collections. Its a low mintage unique looking pure gold coin. I purchased many of them and I have no intentions at this time on selling any of them.

I really don't think this will be the case. I think all MC members will be eager to receive their orders from the mint and secondary market buyers will be just as eager to get a shot at buying one.

Where from this "bright" idea came to RCM - reveal the coin in May and plan to start shipping in September? meanwhile I still think it will be popular, but something started to tell me, that closer to September, majority of mintage will be listed for sale. Yes, people will buy, but will have many sellers to choose from, and here usually Mr.Undercut appears....

Could be darryldarryl. It just seems to me that most of the discussion here appears to be about future value and or flipping the 'coin' rather than it's attributes whereas on the flipping forum, most are simply shying away.
That is incongruent and brings back memories of the Two Loons, Bateman Moose, Glass butterfly, etc. etc. just at a significantly higher price point.
I guess we will see the reaction of the masses when the coin become public, the marketing campaign begins and the media get involved.

I think this is going to be one of those coins that will increase in value and hold its value for the long term. The 2013 superman is, as other have mentioned, one of those coins. The star trek coin has the 24k gold and the unique shape going for it that are over and above the superman coin.

I guess some people are assuming that the RCM and Canada Post will be the only ones producing the Star Trek products. A quick Google search and I could see the US Postal Service will be releasing Star Trek stamps later this year. Is another mint going to have Star Trek coins too? With the release of the coin being so far in the future, it really is a gamble that the RCM gold coin will be the one and only that the Trekkies will all want. You never know, a 14K gold product at the actual size and half the price may have more appeal. Time will tell.
