So, so happy for you. Yes...,,a glass or maybe two of champagne. Lol. Lol. Lol.

Ya good idea to drink it now, it could be a bit vinegary come Sept,if no actual collectors are buying said coin.

Seems mostly resellers are buying this coin up.

Actual collectors, if they not die hard ST fans will not buy. This is too comercial product, priced not for everyone. CAD 1300 - possible to spend on highly graded 1914 $5 gold coin

To me it's more complicated and troubling. It seems that a lot of first time or inexperienced re-sellers are buying it; the real "semi-professional" resells are not. Having said that, at least one user here bought 5 and says he's not selling them so some collectors are actually buying them in a big way.

Of course, many collector were not aware that the coin even existed until last night or today. Hard to believe, but the majority of folks don't read this or any other forums. lol

It's too bad that the gold coin was not as well promoted as say the silver Kirk coin which was all over social media last night with pics of Shatner at the Starfleet Gala.

I wonder what the reaction is on Star Trek forums out there on the web.
Rest in Peace

Last Friday, I suggested to my rep that this would never see the open market, and would be bought up by the M/C members - His response was kind of puzzling "I hope not"...

Little did he know. Anyway, with being 'sold out' at first offering - why should they spend any more money on further advertising or promotions?

Posting on FB/Twitter or even a press release? Incremental cost is virtually zero.

As far as I've seen they have spent nothing on advertising Star Trek. It's been all media coverage and a couple of SM posts. Of course, the Mint likely paid a pretty penny to have Ms. Hanington on stage with Mr. Shatner and for that splash at the Gala last night. They likely even paid Shatner to stop by the Mint yesterday.

They did mention the gold coin, but not a lot. It's the flagship of the offering. Wow them with the sizzling steak and then sell them the hamburger.

Instead, they buried the lead.

But I would not be surprised to see an actual coin appear on the local new tonight - they've done that before with new sold out coins.

Just read a couple of very glowing reviews on the gold coin at mint.ca - of course those are filtered. I couldn't find any Trek forums that even mentioned the coins...guess we need to give it time.

Mr. Shatner if I remembered right is quite a astute businessman asking for residuals on future airing of the series, this was not the norm at the time, must have cost the RCM a boatload for last night's appearance. This coin reminds me of the first gold superman, most didn't like it, then took off.

The difference between the first gold Superman and this coin is that flippers did not get a hold of the Superman coin while it seems flippers are in control of the Star Trek coin.

The first Superman gold made it to the public and this coin did not.

Just a heads up but the Mint posted on Facebook that the Star Trek coins will be available this weekend from their booth at Comic Con in Ottawa. I doubt the gold will be there but I suppose it's possible.

Why would you need 5 of these if your "just" a star trek stuff collector and not going to sell them, its not like they are a $20 item etc , its $1300 X 5 doesn't really make sense to me when 1 would be all you need, but eh go figure.

The topic will be hot till coin delivery, disregards how the coin "will do" on the secondary market.
and after.....will be forgotten as everything else.

How true. Remember the Cherry Blossom and the Gold Plated Inuckshuk? Already forgotten.

And don't forget the June releases is only a few weeks away.

Plus we will get releases from July, August, September....

The reviews on the Mint website are not filtered. All reviews are not glowing comments.

Good or Bad the Mint actually prints them. Not one of mine has ever been not posted whether I had good things to say or not so good things to say.

This topic will be over 100 pages by the time the coin is actually released. I have no doubt.

For all the ones who keep saying that all coins are forgotten sooner than later, well, maybe it is best that you not buy any coins at all! Seriously, let us be positive about this hobby so newcomers can appreciate the positive vibes rather than all the negativity about the hobby of collecting coins. Is this not why we come here?

Putting others down because of what they purchase is truly sad. I came here to share the excitement of coin collecting and not coin bashing. Sheesh!!
