Received these two Series 2009 $100 notes in change recently and noticed one had a security strip going right through the "July 4, 1776," rather than having the words centered on the note's paper weave. Do I have something here or just a spender? Note in back is the other note found for security strip placement comparison.

To be honest, I have never paid that much attention to the strip until you brought up the subject. I happened to have 16 examples to examine. Twelve of them had the July date centered well. Two of them touched the date at the bottom, and two others touched the date at the top, yet you could clearly read the date on all of them. All 16 examples had the strip further away from Franklin's face, like your lower example. I do not know the tolerances of the strip, right, left, up or down, but if I were to guess, I would say not an error.
Question for @Atlas642, why do you and others partially hide the serial numbers of the notes you post ?

I'm also curious about the reasoning covering of serial numbers. It makes doing a proper census tricky at best.

Good question. I see that every now and then.

The variation of placement of the "security strip" (also known as 3D-image) is also apparent on the new Swedish notes. The issuer and central bank, the Riksbank says that 'this occurs naturally during the production process'. I've seen quite a difference already between its placement on the notes.

I can't think of a good reason to redact serial numbers. They are not personally identifying information. Besides, it's an extra step in getting the picture posted.
I checked out a few $100s and also notice the variance in security strip placement.

You guys didn't know? The government has placed GPS systems on all of our paper money and they are tracking our collections! Please start posting pictures with serials censored!!

I figured it was just a variance, still within tolerance to pass BEP inspection.
Given the printing issues with the Series 2009 bills, I wanted to get this one checked out before I release into circulation.
As for the hidden serial numbers, I fear the government tracking my purchases. Just kidding. I once read on this forum about hiding serial numbers, but that was for Where's George entered bills.
