NGC did not designate Early Release on the 20th Annie ASE's since ALL were "early release" PCGS did designate First Strike (for whatever reason) and, CDH, your sealed sets ARE eligible for that designation. The burnished is the key of the set going for over $1000 in MS70 grade

Which burnished, the -S or the -W? Do you mean the (S) bullion coin?

The 20th Annie set did not have an S burninshed or an (S) bullion..only a W burnished
Edited to add: thread was kinda hijacked to include the 20th Annie set. Sorry for the confusion as I thought you had 20th Sets unopened...after re-reading your comment I see that they are the 25th. Again, sorry.
NGC will not give Early release to the sealed 25th sets now. PCGS will....

Exactly...makes no sense to me but the RP sells for around $150 LESS than the MS

The reason that the 2006-W Uncirculated ASE (I hate calling it burnished since it is the blank and not the coin that is burnished. We don't call proofs mirror finish. I know, it's nit-picky but I'm like that.) is the key in MS70 (AKA SP70) is that very few of them achieved that grade and the 20th Anniversary label could not be put on coins from opened sets. Just wondering, did anyone else get their 2006-W Uncirculated ASEs (bought separate from the set) in a velvet bag instead of a clamshell? All three of the ones I bought came that way. The 2006-W Reverse Proof still had a smaller percentage of 70s than later sets but it could get 20th Anniversary labels even if from opened sets.

Fox, just curious but if the entire 3piece set in 70 goes for $700-1000 how is the burnished alone in 70 worth $1k?

Yup my mind was in run on sentence mode...I was continuing the PCGS First Strike thought and that's the price for that issue and CDG submitting to them for FS Quote: PCGS did designate First Strike (for whatever reason) and, CDH, your sealed sets ARE eligible for that designation.
The burnished is the key of the set going for over $1000 in MS70 grade It's hard to find recent data re: FS PCGS 20th Annie 70 but the last ones I saw were in the $900-1000 range. The only present recent sale is a 70 with Mercanti sig (for whatever that's worth) but I assume it bumped the price a bit http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-W-Amer...AOSwknJXztDj

It's amazing how much people with pay for 3rd party packaging. Mine is every bit as perfect as that one at a fraction of the cost.

I learned a LONG time ago never to try and figure out why collectors buy what they buy. I just go with the flow and sell it to them....can't argue with the facts
