@Foxwoods - I failed to mention that I already bought a replacement 25th set shortly after mine was stolen. But that's a fine idea regardless. Or maybe I'll make my own 30th anniversary set and put a couple proofs, burnished, and a bullion 2016 in there.

CelticKnot: If you are planning to build a custom display case, you should consider the case's ability to expand and add other 'unique' ASE set...... For me, since I have extra empty OGP of the 2011, 2012, 2013 sets.... I will just make a case that has mounting devices for me to mount them on, with extras for future expansion. Just thought out loud for now. Back to the 2011 25th Anni Set: I think the price will hold for NOW. Price appreciation will only come at the NEXT major/significant product marketing. REMEMBER what happened to the price of the 2006 set when the 2011 set release? On the other hand, NOW is a good time to accumulate/buy the 2011 set for long term, especially the non-unique coins that are graded w/ the 25th Annie SET label. Anyone recall the price for the 2006 ASE bullion graded MS70 with 20th Anni Set label?

For us newbies can you explain what did happen to the 2006 ASE's. Thanks.

Not sure what you mean by "What happened" but there was a 20th Annie set of three ASE's with a RP unique to the set. This was my first "all in" purchase with the Mint.

I think he's wondering about the price jump for the 2006 anni set when the 2011 came out fox. I'd answer it but it was before my time

OOps...went right over SA4H's post.... Quote:Anyone recall the price for the 2006 ASE bullion graded MS70 with 20th Anni Set label? The 2006 set didn't have a bullion coin unless you mean the "W" burnished ASE. Proof, RP and W...set sold for 4100 from the Mint I bought 30 sets...and had them all graded except for one sealed set that I still have. Set in 70 grade goes for $760-1000

Thanks for the correction, Foxwoods Man.
I mean to imply the price jump of the raw set at around the release of the 25th Anni Set. The 2006 set were going for around $200 prior to the 25th Anni Set release to, at the peek, around $400s range. It's now down, but still in the $300s range.
From this observation, I believe the 25th Annie Set will see similar price performance of the 20th Annie Set (2006 Set), if and when the Mint release another special set similar to the 25th Annie Set.

...and that would be either a few months or five years from now

Sorry, looking back my reply does seem kind of vague but "yes" was just wondering what happened to the price of the 2006 ASE's once the 2011's came out. Though I did find all replies posted very interesting and informative. Thanks again.

I sold one OGP set to a coin shop for $600 a few years ago, and kept the others. Bought an extra OGP box/COA shortly after release, and made this 5-W set just for fun...

I have one of the 20th anni set in OGP, bought from the mint at $100. I have five of the 25th anni sets, four of them still in individual mint shipping boxes, so they can still get PCGS "First Strike" labels if submitted. The percentage of 70s from those sets was so high that there are possibly two or three complete 70 sets in there. While I personally would not pay extra to get a slabbed set of "First Strike" coins, I would probably pay to have them attributed as such because there are a lot of people willing to pay more than the labels cost. Also for no reason other than I like them, I have seven each of the 2012 & 2013 two coin sets. It is a shame that it looks like there isn't going to be a 30th anni set but I could kick the coins out of a couple of the 2012 & 2013 sets to hold some of this year's coins. It seems to me that the current value of any of these sets is at least in part related to how many of them are actually in the marketplace at any given moment, so if you are considering selling, and you think the price is too low, wait a while and it may improve, but it is always a gamble. I don't expect to sell any of mine unless personal finances someday require it. The reverse proof 2006 coin that I have has a small die crack on Liberty's face:

Not sure if you can get a first strike label at this time.
But you should be able to get all coins with 25th anniversary label. The big thing was, if the shipping box was opened then only the two unique coins would get the 25th label.

I like the idea of using the empty OGP the anniversary sets came in to build other sets ..

NGC wont give out "Early Releases" or "First Releases" labels after their cutoff dates but PCGS will issue "First Strike" labels virtually forever as long as the coins are still in their unopened mint shipping containers with the date stamp prior to their cutoff date.
From the PCGS website:
THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO OBTAIN THE FIRST STRIKE DESIGNATION 1. The package mailed to PCGS has a postmark date prior to the PCGS cutoff date for that particular coin/issue. Only the coins need to be mailed to PCGS and received within the first 30 days of issue.
2. Submit the coins in the original unopened shipping box from the U.S. Mint with a postmark date prior to the specified PCGS cutoff date.
