Obviously the ECB will really do it: Stop to issue the 500 Euro bill and withdraw this denomination from circulation.
It seems that it's not the question IF they will do it, only HOW and WHEN?
Sounds similar to 1969 when the FED decided the same concerning the large denominations...

They can do this in a very short while, once the item comes up on the agenda and the members agree it is something each of them need to sign off on.

I once read that the 500 Euro was nicknamed a "Bin Laden", because everyone had heard of them, but no one had actually seen one.
