You have an example of classic machine damage created after your coin was struck. The recoil of the machine caused a hop, bounce after the strike damaging the devices you are seeing. Note on each device affected it reduced the overall normal size of the devices. On a doubled die, the die is actually doubled when it was being hubbed. So all coins from that die will show the widened devices that are larger than normal devices. On MD examples the die is a normal die, but the mechanism moved after the strike damaging the devices. You will find this on all coinage from time to time as often as this happens.

Note on your first image how the 'ER' is affected? Look at the overall size of the devices. on the 'E'. You can see where it was reduced and same on the 'R'. Your not the first one confused by this event after the striking of a coin.

Note the area affected above the base of the device is affected? That is machine damage after the strike was completed.

Plus it is a silver coin, so it has melt value.

Totally missed that it was a 1964. My brain took the '7' in title and made it say 1967.

Yes, certainly a keeper for that alone. The lesson is a value add.
