I was looking for a 1994 DDR, but came across a nice "blob" on one of the pillars:Couple-Of-Finds-And-Questions...

Ok, is this damage or a huge serif?

Here's a 2007 P dime. The first pic is the top back of Rossevelt's head. Wavy trails?Couple-Of-Finds-And-Questions...

And lastly, does the U in trust look longer than usual?

brefros, nice die chip on column. The E looks looks worn down and took a hit by something. Lines on Rosie's head probably polishing trying to remove die clash. U in trust seems to be die damage.

1)appears to be a small die break, whole picture would help as it looks like there is north/south cracks as well.
2)damage, possibly from a counting machine
3)another picture a bit too close, either die polishing lines or flow lines from die wear
4) Die Deterioration

biokemist has it right but I will clarify #3, it is the die wear scenario that he has listed.

amac44's coins show die wear and Machine Doubling and nothing unusual with respect to the mintmarks.

As far as "Down the road they will become die varieties" A coin is a die variety from the first coin to the last. They never become a die variety "later." If they are a die variety, they may not be recognized till they are found, but they are always a variety. If they are damaged/worn die coin, they will always be a coin, just not a variety. Varieties are made in the die when they were created. Damage/wear occurs after continued use. They never become varieties later. Either they are or they are not. They never become a variety.
