Beginning on May 6, 2016, ebay removed the option for sellers to disallow product reviews to appear on their listings. I really really think this bites. You can't very well apply "product reviews" to coins when making a purchase decision, since the function of ebay product reviews is to help buyers compare brands.

It was not until I became a seller that I was aware that product reviews displayed on a listing page are not related to the seller or his sales. I feel that this new change WILL adversely affect all sellers.

I also couldn't help but notice, if a product has been reviewed, the html formatting gets screwy, and 5 miles of whitespace gets displayed below the listing. Has anyone else experienced this, or is it specifically my computers?

I wonder if there is a way to petition ebay to remove product reviews for coins. Does anyone else feel the same way?

You have a good point; I was unaware of this change. No clue how to deal with the ebay bureaucracy.

Some ebay policies are not well thought out and become their own worst enemy after implementation.

Then ebay wonders why people quit listing.

Strange company nowadays.

Actually, I love it - I've used product ratings before to let people know the item for sale is counterfeit!

Burton - I have used it to mention that the coin has an undescribed flaw and was returned for refund and is now being offered again with no addendum.

Then next week when you sell the "same" coin, those ratings show up on your listing.

What Bobby said!! Here is my point EXACTLY! I cannot stress this enough, folks.. If you submit a product review for a 1909 V.D.B. Lincoln Cent, you just reviewed ALL 1909 V.D.B. Lincoln Cents that apply to that item within ebay's catalogue. And now, that review will appear on every seller's 1909 V.D.B. listing. Get it?

For anyone interested.. I just discovered a workaround. When you create a listing (or edit a fixed price listing), if you avoid selecting the item from ebay's catalogue, the reviews will not appear on your listing. If you use custom html in your description, you may find that the product reviews interfere with its implementation.

I just hope that listing outside of ebay's catalogue doesn't negatively affect listing priority within searches. Eek.

The reviews show on some of my listings and I do not use ebay's catalog for any coins I sell.

I have noticed this in the past and my problem with the whole things is some buyers may confuse this with the sellers rating and not know it is the product rating.

It may be helpful if your buying a camera or some other gadget but on coins each is different. My opinion it is totally useless for coins. Who wants to read a bad review on a scratched cleaned coin when you are searching for an MS coin? makes no sense to me.

i once stopped bidding on some nice RB unc. wheats from the 10s when I saw that there was "product reviews".. I thought this meant that others were getting coins of the same dates, not the same ones shown! They were NICE, too.

Thanks for the clarifications. It is a stupid rating scheme for any collectibles.

yes ebay needs to clarify, that the reviews, are not directly tied to your coin, unless you have sold many of the same coin..very misleading to potential buyers.

It's being addressed. Just keep in mind, as with any big company, that it will take time.
