"Hi - I won this auction but now realize that I simply do not want it. Sorry."

What makes it even more enjoyable is that after receiving that happy little message I have to initiate the "cancel sale" request which then generates this uplifting message from ebay:

"Got it—we'll let the buyer know that you want to cancel this order. Buyer has up to 10 days to confirm."

Yes!! Yes!! It was all MY idea! I love wasting my time and effort! Thank you, irresponsible bidder and ebay, for this opportunity to enhance my quality of life!

Steev....

For some weird reason ebay wants you to think that the reason the Buyer wants to cancel the sale is because of something that the you did. They want to plant this seed in your mind ---- "Gosh, I had a Buyer ask to cancel a sale, what did I do wrong?"

ebay knows 100% that a Buyer cannot make a mistake, make an error or change their mind unless the Seller caused them to do that.

So, ebay with their all encompassing wisdom sees to it that YOU suffer the consequences for something that you had to have caused. They don't know what it was, but whatever it was, must have been caused by you!

Crazy!

Rest in Peace

There isn't an example throughout eBays "rules" and system that doesn't punish the seller in every possible way regardless of the reason.

The customer is always right is taken to the extreme.

I don't sell very much on ebay...but I do buy coins. I believe if you bid and win you pay No matter what. If once received item wasn't as described then contact seller.

Is there a way for seller to not accept/block bids from certain members? Does ebay allow for this?

You should have made the buyer cancel the sale and if he didn't want to do that then just put in an unpaid item report in.
Either way the onus isn't on you as it shouldn't be

Absolutely! There is one ebay seller who has blocked me from bidding but not because I did anything to her on ebay, but I, along with quite a few others, 'razzed' her here on CCF for making some silly claims.

I buy and sell on ebay so I understand your frustration. The buyer does not have the option to cancel a purchase. he can only either contact the seller or just simply not pay and after a couple of weeks or whatever he receives an "unpaid item strike" which means nothing unless the buyer has a long and frequent history of non payment...

But somewehere after you initiate the cancellation you are given the option to select the reason "Why" you cancelled.. There are several options and At least 2 of the options I recall were something like "could not agree on shipping cost or arrangemnets." And "Buyer changed his mind".. if either of those is selected then it's not the sellers fault. And the notification is sent to the buyer simply to confirm the cancellation and so that the seller can get his fees reimbursed..

The other options given for cancellation is if the seller is out of stock, lost, broken, item is no longer available, etc..

While I can understand your frustration with that, think of what would happen if you did not cancel the sale.
The buyer would get it and then claim that it didn't match the description. With coins, it is easy to say that unless you mention every possible complaint. (Things like, it looks different in hand than in the pictures) Then you would have to refund the money, and pay return shipping. My long standing complaint against ebay. They are a buyer protection advocacy, seller protection doesn't interest them.
