I don't think they will be big losers but they will eventually sell for a minimal profit over issue price. I don't see them getting anywhere near spot price.
This was not an "all in" kinda product but more of a buy one and keep it kinda thing (I did not buy any)

Quote: "Full bands"? I have heard so much negativity about them all having "flat bands". Do you have any images available of yours? At the coin show the dealer was asking $245 each. he let me have mine for a lot less due to a steady customer. He said he had a lot of them and almost all sold out within the first hour of the show. He saved me one and had one left and maybe for himself. They do not have full Bands and all horizontal ones are flat. Also, not sure of others but mine also has a slightly rotated reverse. I probably will take some photos in a day or so and post them here. And no I am not going to take it out of the case or the presentation box it is now in. Said that yesterday as a joke.

They originally were offered at $1240. Doesn't bode well for the Merc. The only thing that might keep up demand for this one is the low price, however there are much cheaper ways to own gold. Also if even though these might be on the less expensive side, the pressure will be there to own the whole set and that will run into big bucks. That could also dull the future demand for these.

I saw one of these gold Mercury dimes at a local club meeting a couple nights ago. The coin was disappointing. The devices are not sharp at all like a well struck Mercury dime, and there is no way the bans ever will be split because that feature is not in the die. In addition the coin had "fining" or a "wire rim" around the edge. This happens when there is a space between the die (reverse die in this case) and the collar in which the coin is struck. A number of collectors have complained about this and for good reason. I can't see why the mint messed up like this on a commemorative coin. In short, this coin falls below expectations from the technological point of view.

I too am rather disapointed in this coin. The Mint spent to much time and money in the box, a box inside that, a case to hold the slab, a piece of black cloth, the slab itself and finally the coin. Plus of course the document saying it's authentic. The color too is poor so almost not noticeable that it is Gold. Just saw this coin on the internet for $399.99. Just got to contact the dealer I got this from about his prices.

Billjones, it's not really a commemorative. Technically it's a bullion issue and apparently the mint is treating it as such as well. Very disappointed. I'm not a merc guy bUT what they did with this makes me want to vomit. And check this out, the quarter is going to be the bare breast BUT no nipple just like no fsb! If they can't strike a nipple then go chain mail. How the US mint is handling these is just down right wrong. The paper pushers are running the asylum!

There was no legislation by Congress authorizing it making it a purely bullion piece. Meaning they can make more if they want to as well. I'm thinking they will produce a 3-coin set in December for Christmas after they've sold all of them individually. Don't kid yourself. This is wolf (bullion piece) in sheep's (commemorative) clothing

Im fine with this coin/commemorative/bullion. 125K is a lot, but the real problem is 10 per household. That invited distribution problems/abuses.
