Found this glass with a medal embedded on it. I was intrigued by the medal but I think it must be a reproduction of the medal found here:

https://www.bundesbank.de/Navigatio...docId=340546¬First=true

It is two sided, well made, 1 3/4 " .
Has anyone seen anything like this glass? Do you have approximate age?
Is it mass produced or rare, I can find no similar example.
Thanks,
Charles

cpackjr, welcome to CCF!

I agree that the image you show looks a lot like the image in the link. Can you confirm some of the other characteristics such as edge lettering, rev design, and presence of the medalist's initials? Also, you list it at 1.75 in, which corresponds to about 44.5 mm. This is quite different from the 81 mm that is listed as the correct diameter, so please double-check.

I do believe this is a reproduction. It is very well made and makes me wonder what tis the purpose of making it and mounting it to a heavy, vintage looking glass? The reverse is as detailed as the front but is not very visible due to it being mounted to the glass. I do not see edge engraving..
The only thing even close to this item is shot glasses put out by some breweries with mounted medals depicting the place where the drink won an award.
Thanks for the reply

Ok repro then, but still an interesting piece. From the pic, it looks like the shape is either an "L" or else you balanced this glass on another one for the pic. A second pic that shows a side view would be helpful.

I'm not sure how active the exonumia folks are in the tokens, medals, and exonumia portion of this forum, but you might check with them to see if they can offer any additional thoughts on timing and rarity. One way to move your post is to click on the link "report post" in the bottom right of your original post and request that the moderators move it over there. The only thing that I know about glassware is that if there is a seam then it is molded and if there is no seam then it was blown (and I'm sure there are a whole bunch of exceptions that I don't know about).
