I'm curious to learn a bit more detail about this coin I picked up during my travels in Manali, India some years back.

It looks pretty ancient, but searching online I've found similar looking coins without too much detail that suggest it might not be as old as I originally thought. I've not found anything with the same design though.

I guess it's copper or brass.

Anyone know anything about the coin I have? Any info is greatly appreciated as I'm quite curious.

This looks like India-Bikanir Princely state (Krause K23). Denomination Takka, and should weigh 16-17 grams.

It looks ancient because it was made using ancient methods of minting. In fact it dates to the mid 1800s

Weight of the coin is 16.36 grams.

Just found a copper coin on ebay (link below) from suggestion, looks quite similar so could be right - thank you!

My books are old but they do point to India Princely State of Bikaner, Paisa of Alamgir II if I read the book right. The coin is a dead ringer and dates around the 1750s. Newer books have different numbers no doubt. One thing I did learn about Numista as a reference: it can and does contain errors because info is spread around by those that supply it. And it can be right or wrong in some cases. So it's worth checking out all the way if it's important to get a particular coin as correct as can be.

Thanks Albert, much appreciated. So could be a little older than originally thought then.

I find these old coins quite interesting but very hard to research due to not being able to understand the script.
