Hi Doug,

This coin appears to have strong AU details, but the color is dark and the surfaces look a bit granular, possibly from corrosion. The dark patch above the ribbon on the reverse looks suspiciously round; could this be from some kind of repair job? There is also a fairly noticeable rim bump at about 10:30 on the obverse.

Overall, a well-detailed coin, but one with problems. If I were in the market for an 1838 cent I would look for a nicer example. Just my opinion!

There's no where near 95% environemental damage on this Large Cent. With the exception of the dark patch above the ribbon the planchet looks pretty good to me. There may be a little bit of granularity on the planchet but lets remember this is a 170 year old piece of copper that is highly susceptible to corrosion.

svtPony is their a rim bump at 10:30 or is it light reflecting off of the plastic.

I would like to see pics of this coin taken out of the 2x2.

From what I can tell this is an AU coin and a nice one at that.
