I upgraded my 1879. old one is an XF40.

This one is much better.

The fields(OBV and REV) on this one are VERY reflective. Puts my 1883PL and 1885PL to shame. Having hard time showing reflection. took several pics. Can see cameo well, but mirrors not coming through.

These are the best I could do. Any suggestions on to show how mirrored the field is?

What do you think? As usual all opinions welcome.

Thanks...Mont.

I don't think it is quite DMPL, perhaps MPL instead.
With modern proof mirror fields, there is no cartwheel luster, just mirror. I know of no DMPL coin that quite acqired this characteristic ,anyway.

Slight scuffing on the high points, but I would not quite call it wear.

Very pleasing and desirable coin.

MS64MPL.
Rest in Peace

1879-S is known to come in very nice, high grades (PL and DMPL). I would guess this coin to be a 63-64 PL, possibly cameo if sent to ANACS. PL and DMPL can only be judged with coin in hand so it is up to you or TPGs to decide. Good luck ;)

MS64 The obverse is showing a nice cameo and the mirros look strong. From your photos the reverse may not make PL as there is little contrast between fields and details and the mirrors look weak.

I tried taking pics in different lighting to show reflective field. This is a little better

Obverse is much more reflective than reverse.

I felt forced to concede that the fields have at least some obvious mirror effect.Perhaps not a recognised term, but
that is why I said 'MPL'.

I'll have to say 64; tend to agree that the reverse is not up to PL standards. Nice coin in any event.

MS64. I dont think it would pull a PL designation as both sides must exhibit those qualities and at the reverse does not
