Hello Members,

I was wondering if the new ICCS population report is out and whether there are any big jumps in the population of certain coins which were previously thought to be scarce or rare...any thoughts?

Thank you as always to community members for your replies

It is most useful for the high end collector who likes to collect the top pop coins, however this type of collector has totally vanished.

So, to answer your question............NO!

Au contraire... however top pop collectors tend to house the best Canadian coins in PCGS holders. So take the statistics with a grain of salt, at best...

Are the ICCS reports even accurate? E.g. how many 1973 nickel dollars at MS-67?

I find them useful as another source of reference material but their
importance to me has diminished over the years. The vast majority of
my coins are in PCGS holders so their population reports are much more
relevant to me. They are updated daily and are online for easy access.
ICCS is a dinosaur in this regard although they do provide a valuable
niche for the collector of Canadian coins.

I think that as SPP says the populations of high end coins are overstated. I have sent a number of top ICCS MS cents to PCGS. So, for example, the (I think still) solo 1941 MS66 ICCS no longer exists. It is now PCGS. One of the (last time I looked) 3 MS66 1935 cents is also gone. Same with one of the 1938s. Also, many coins in older holders are resubmitted for upgrades. I have done this maybe a dozen times. They were all in MS64 holders and are now in MS65 holders. But the MS64 population is still there.
