Curious what the experts think. How much value is lost because of
the hole.

The coin in hand looks much better than in the pictures. It does have
dark tone.

Thinking about sending it into ANACS. Sometimes slabbed coins sell
better on ebay

oh I just reread the original post, and saw that you wanted the experts' opinion. That would not be me.

I don't think you need to be an expert to venture that opinion in this case.
Rest in Peace

Besides the hole, all your rims are messed up , And the MM doesn't even looks like a D . It's too bad because it would have been a nice high grade Barber .

1908 D is not a key date coin.

While the coin does have high XF / AU details since it is not a key date I think it has does not have the "sucker bidder" edge going for it.

If you had a high grade holed or details grade 1916D Mercury dime or 1916 or 1921 SLQ you might get someone on ebay to bid close to the value of a non details coin hoping for a deal to fill the hole in their album.

But again this is a common date so the "sucker demand" is low unless somoene is looking to fill a hole in their typeset or half album on the cheap.

You might get $20 on ebay if that helps.
