Picked this up for $2.50. Seems too good to be true but it does appear authentic. It obviously has been cleaned though. Opinions? Edited by Alex12780 05/22/2016 9:52 pm

That does seem too good to be true, looks VF30-35 cleaned IMO. Does not seem fake other than the price tag.

I bought it in a gold and silver store that also sold coins. All the coins there were way over priced and then this caught my eye. Perhaps a communication error or simple mistake when writing price down? They sold it less than its weight in silver.

VF details, polished. Does appear to be genuine and has enough detail for something like a type set - not a bad snag for the price!

There's a good chance the asking price was $250.

VF-Details, cleaned. The store clerk obviously made a mistake on the price. Numismedia has XF-40 listed at $198 for a 1843 Seated Half. If problem free a high retail price of $250.00 would be possible but not a "good deal" by any stretch of the imagination. Probably would bring at least $80 on ebay, it's not a bad type set coin since it has good detail and still has some eye appeal despite being cleaned.

Someone may lose their job over this. Big difference between $2.50 and $250.

I bet the price was $250 as noted above. That's 3X what it's worth but would not be an unusual asking price in a some coin shops.
