No experience with these but I'll hazard a guess.
VF-30

I am guessing its a hair better into the EF range. There is a good deal of definition along "Liberty" and the hairlines as well as the stars around the obverse.

VF 30 to 35 details. The rim issues on the reverse hurt it.
Still a cool coin.

i think net value is VF money with the issues I think the reliefs and devices themselves fall into an EF designation but again, have no effect on collector market value i will bump with photos versus these scans when it arrives so we can have a look at how original it is. The idea of owning a gold coin from 1836 that isn't completely worn to nothing and did not cost me what I cannot get back at some point is awesome enough in itself. I don't like holed coins but I don't mind rim nicks.

The "old time" grade on this piece is VF-20. Today, unfortunately, NGC puts too many of these coins in EF-40 holders. The rim issues on the reverse might lead NGC to grade this one VF-30.
It's a nice, original old gold coin, but it's seen a lot of use for a 19th century gold coin. Hence the grade.

I'm with billjones on his assessment, today it seems TPG are giving higher grades to older gold due to mintage/surviving examples rather than strictly on grade merit. VF20/25 coin in a VF30 holder. I don't think they detailed it for the rim nicks.

I'm just happy it will be here tomorrow. I am anxious to post in-hand pics from the good old iphone 6 plus. where I need some technical grading assistance is understanding which areas of the obverse and reverse relief show this coin worn down to a VF20 versus a VF35 or even the EF40. Maybe in-hand, diffused lighting in the cloud dome will help us understand if this is worth sending into a TPG. thanks as always for the input and time you take to comment.

I'd be quite pleased to own one of these in any grade!

here are the iphone cam shots. It looks all original circulated gold to me. As to whether PCGS or NGC will give it a mid VF or high VF grade is TBD. I may or may not send it in.

Interesting to imagine what this coin saw during so many years of circulation.
