Item Number: 182141445106http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Lot-of-4-coi...182141445106Bid is already at $200+ The value of these 4 coins exceeds 1 million Canadian dollars. I contacted him to ask for a shot of all 4 coins in one picture. Not expecting any reply. There is no proof this is not real, but the chance of an opening bid of $1 for coins worth this much is impossible. I apologize if this is in the wrong section. Please delete this thread if needed. They have 100 per cent positive feedback in the last 12 months and with some high end items

I'd definitely be very skeptical about it. It appears the seller has even prepped the account for fish.

there is no way anyone would not put these in a high end auction, no way at all. this will not end well, in my honest opinion. however I do need a nice 1921 half for my own collection, so you never know.

The 1921 and 1889 do not check out on the PCGS site. No such certificate nos. exist. GregJG report these as counterfeits in the Canadian counterfeit section.

It's odd. I notice for example this auction was cancelled -- http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Lot-of-5-Can...AOSwve5XOMLIAlthough it indicates zero bids, clicking on the bids, some cancelled bids appear. That suggests -- if this seller is legitimate -- perhaps he uses ebay to advertise his items but negotiates side deals with those who contact him, with the intention of cancelling the auction prior to its conclusion. High risk to a buyer....no ebay guarantee. Interesting though, makes ebay not quite so boring.....

Very odd to see a seller with good feedback and high end items from before having 2 coins up there with no matching certs.

Hijacked account? All the coins listed have valid PCGS certification numbers. The 1871-H and 1921 50 cent pieces along with the 1889 10 cent piece were sold by Heritage in their Canadiana sale in January of 2010. The 1915 25 cent piece was sold by Heritage in their Dominion sale of Canadian coins in September of 2006.

I double-double checked, the cert #'s for the 1921 and 1889 are not valid.

DBM: Go to the Heritage website and check the auctions I mentioned. PCGS will have glitches in their coin verification system from time to time. These coins are well known to the numismatic community.

I'm not familiar with rules and regulations of E-Bay, since this is not a counterfeit sale and above all else it could be fraud. Do'es that mean there is no way to stop this unless the current owners of the coins listed take action(if they are so inclined to do so)? Or if it is the current owner selling them(I know that sounds ridiculous but it can't be ruled out). As wildflower mentioned, it is taking away from ebay boredom lol.

Thanks Everest. To my eye the 1921 50c photo looks like it has been swiped from the Heritage Auction site, identical to the pic of the PCGS holder. Both pics also have a slight glare on the bottom part of the plastic rim of the holder, exactly in the same place. http://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/cana...-descriptionI haven't compared the others.

I agree wildflower, the background image and corners are exactly the same, including the cropping. Could be a legitimate auction, but it is starting to sound suspicious.

So 2 out of 4 of these suffer from a PCGS glitch..these are high end coins it would seem that PCGS is not doing the owner or seller much justice here. I could be wrong but to me they all look authentic..so I agree this auction should be interesting.

Wildflower is correct. The ebay one is a scaled down copy of the HA auction one. If you use image comparison software and fit them both to scale and ignore anti aliasing they are the exact same picture. Edit: Checked the other 3 all the same just scaled down copies from HA.
