This may sound crazy, but is it better to have an auction ending in the afternoon when everybody is at home and off of work or first thing in the morning. I want to sell a few items so I will have some money to improve my collection and I just wanted to know if there is a "best" time to list an item on ebay? I want opinions from some of the more experienced. Thanks

I have found that the Best time to end is between 7:00-9:00pm on fridays and saturdays. The most people are off of work and have already eaten dinner and they just wanna veg out.

However best time to buy with the least chance of snippers is early Early in the morning on weekdays

The best time to end a listing is between 9pm and 11pm EST. If you end earlier than 9pm EST, the people on the west coast will still be working and/or just getting home. If you end it later than 11pm EST, the people on the east coast will be going to bed.

If you don't want evening listings, your next best option is to aim for about 9am to 10am EST...lots of people like to mess around on the internet right after they get to work. Lunchtime would be the third-best option, but I rarely end anything at that time.

The day of the week is also important. I try to avoid listings which end on Saturdays, unless the item I'm listing is wildly popular (e.g., Dell computers, IPods, etc.). I also try to avoid Friday nights and, to a lesser extent, Thursday nights. Sundays are very good, as long as you don't end the listings in the morning or early afternoon. Monday and Tuesday nights are great. Wednesday night is pretty good.

I just realized what you posted, grace. We have completely opposite experience with weekends. I frequently purchase items in bulk for resale. I've found that IDENTICAL items will almost always sell at a higher price on weeknights than they do on Friday and Saturday nights.

Connor,

There's a lot of competition on Fri and Sat night. If you are selling a "hot" item, this is the time for it. Otherwise a weekday night for more common stuff.

I find that those "snippers" are around 24 hours a day!

For coins yes, but don't take that as gospel for everything. It depends on what your selling.

You'd want your "10 tips on finding a great job" or "How to make money from home" eBook ending in the afternoon.

Look at the top clothing sellers, the anchor stores, they all end their listings in the afternoon because it's better for clothes.

Office supplies - Also afternoon.

I agree that certain items do better in the afternoon...mainly things related to business or school/homeschooling. Most categories, however, do best at night...household items, electronics, tools, etc.

My experience is that even clothing does better at night. Clothing tends to get more bidding over the life of the listing than most products, so the end time isn't quite as important; however, I've found that you almost never get daytime snipers on clothing, but you can get them on evening listings sometimes. I can offer two explanations as to why most clothing listings end during the day, but they are just logical guesses: (1) the top retailers are true businesses and have employees who work during the day; therefore, the listings end during the day. I know they could schedule the listings to end at different times, but maybe for some reason they aren't? (2) Stay-at-home moms list a lot of clothing on ebay and they don't really pay attention to end times.
