Okay, I am not in an ebay boycott mode. If they want to raise their rates and call it a cut, I don't care. But, it's harder to sell a Morgan or ASE in the $25-60 range and break even now. Sooooo..... where else or how else is the best way? There is an on-line place out of San Francisco that is free list/flat rate sell. And, i'ts not an auction; potential buyer contacts you and you haggle from there. Any and all ideas accepted. I have a lot of dupes of ASE and Morgans I'd like to move and get other coins. Thanks all, Seth

craigslist.com is wildly popular and it's 100% free. The disadvantages are: (1) You can't reach the entire nation with a single post. You need to post separately to every single region you want to see your ad. (2) Since most of the interest will be from local customers, you have to arrange for pickup. In my experience, only about 40% to 50% of the people who say they are coming to pick up an item actually show up. (3) You have to be more careful of craigslist than ebay for scammers. The site is MUCH safer now than it was 5 years ago (due to its popularity), but it's still easier to get scammed on craigslist than ebay. I only accept Paypal in advance or cash on the spot when I sell this way.

Another option might be to put an ad in the classified section of your local or regional newspaper. I always look through those looking for coin auctions or estate sales...and I see several "buying coins" ads every week, never any selling though....

I haven't listed on ebay for the last two weeks and have listed coins here on the forum instead. Some have sold for asking price and others I have moved to the auction forum. I would suggest trying to sell them here. Our members are good people and I think would be very willing to pay fair price. It certainly won't cost you anything to give it a try.

I have sold or bought from 50-75 different forum members I think. It's safe, friendly, and easy to do. And most of us that know each other mail things out before we even get paid. I might not make as much money as with ebay, but I do take some satisfaction that it's a friend that I have helped find that one coin or set that they have been looking for...and for a better price. Kudos on making this a safe haven for sellers and buyers Mom and Dad

99% of my sales have nothing to do with coins, so I'm basically stuck. I hate to continue to list on ebay, but I have no decent options at this point. I haven't listed new items yesterday or today, but I might need to soon!

Craigslist is owned by ebay. Too many people leave ebay and go there it may not be free any more.

Actually now that I think about it, I think they just bought a piece. It's been a year probably.

susanlynn9: Excellent idea. The want ad in the local paper would leave too many people knowing where I am or what I have. (Although, I do have a Sig Sauer-Winchester security system ) Anything to keep the deficit spening down. Seth

ebay could do better for both buyer and seller. They're raising fees without appearing to actually improve their auction process, and they only keep doing so because they assume their huge user base has nowhere else to go. I hope a business comes on the scene that is able to provide an umbrella listing of many auction sources, allowing others to compete fairly against ebay. It's also ridiculous that ebay does not provide some form of escrow/insurance service for more expensive transactions; I'm not terribly reassured by PayPal's "buyer protection" for larger sales. I realize this is a bit of a rant, but I have to say that ebay is behaving a lot like an entrenched company abusing a loyal user base--and less like a "progressive" internet startup--my .02 Suffice to say, I'll prefer to sell my coins to the community here than keep ebay's status-quo going.

ebay used to have escrow service. Did they get rid of it? I honestly don't know because I haven't had somebody ask me to use it in at least 5 years. Prior to that, people asked me to use it regularly and I refused. It's just another way of giving the buyer recourse against the seller and there's enough of that already!

Amazon.com or Overstock.com are the only one's that might have a chance with ebay but people have to start listing with other services and stop ignoring them.

I love selling on Amazon, but it doesn't really apply to most people on this board. The people here want to sell coins and Amazon isn't an option for coin sales. The only way to list coins on Amazon is to make up a phony UPC code for each coin. Eventually Amazon would catch on and block your account.

I am getting sick of the fee at ebay & Pay Pal too! 1. Pay Pal charges way to much for there service its like loan shark's with permission. 2.As a seller & a buyer at times that protection plan is B.S.! 3.I hate to phone them! somewhere

Obviously you've never had a merchant account. Paypal's fees are actually very competitve.
