Alight..... so I didn't actual find a treasure in the true sense of the word. My wife and I bought the house that my grandfather built shortly after WWII. Last night as we were cleaning out the old can good cellar that had been collecting junk for decades, I found a 1922S Peace dollar. It wasn't in the best of shape, in fact it looked like grandpa may have used it as a stop while hammering something because it has some punches in it. Grandpa has been gone for a few years now (we were very close for a long time) and it was nice to find something that was once his, was lost since probably the early 50s (which is when the cellar began to fill with junk from what I have heard from my mom), and is now mine. So like I said, it wasn't in good shape, not worth a whole bunch, but to me... it is a little treasure. Just thought I would share.

That. Is. AWESOME!

Of course, I say that with me being the sentimental sap.

I have my grandfather's "lucky" 1922 Peace dollar. One of the most important coins in my collection.

Yeah it was just neat to find something that meant a lot to me. Now my collection will always have a little memory of my grandfather included.

I forgot to mention, my grandfather was born in 1922 and passed away in 2006.

I read the title and thought you got something from Don.

Very nice find, better than getting it from Don.

Speaking of Don, I haven't seen him in a while. I got a new position at work, bought and renovating a home, and got a new puppy. My free time quickly dwindled to nil.
Jbuck, my grandpa was born in 1925 and passed in 2011. Great guy that I learned a ton from.

Sounds like a great find! I also have one coin from my grandma: she once game me the only war money she had left, with a personal note. I still have both.

Any chance of posting a pic of the 'poor' coin? Would be nice to see how good or bad it is. :)

I will see if I can find some time this weekend. The wife has me working on tearing out the old bathroom down to the joists and studs.

Just tell her you need a coin break.

Neat story!
Coincidentally, I also have a 1922-S Peace dollar, which I got from my great-grandfather (1914-1988) via my grandmother(1945-present). It also has a number of marks in it, which look more like they came from a fork.

Although I don't have any close relatives born in 1922, I did manage to find a great-great-aunt born that year, who passed away in 1980.

I would like to see some pictures of your coin!
