I have to admit I have went a little crazy a few times with weekly visit to the coin stores .Once my wife realized there is no cure for my coin addiction .About 3 months ago we agreed to a weekly coin budget of $25.This has worked out pretty good .Now when I go to buy coins if don't find what I was looking for I simply save the money .(Currently have a $65. Balance)Before I couldn't leave a coin store without buying something .Now the wife cant me fill guilty about my purchases

Seeking:More coins

$25 per week is a pretty good amount.

I get $30 per week out of my paycheck, I use it as an "Allowance" and can use it for sodas, lunch, coins or whatever. I usually take my lunch to work so I only spend a few dollars a week on sodas & snacks, the rest usually goes towards coins.

You can really make that $25 work harder if you buy rolls from the bank to search.(and it's FUN too!) If I buy a $25 box of cents I average 5-6 wheaties which sell for 3 cents each and about $5 or $6 dollars worth of copper cents which I sell for 1.5 cents each when I get enough of them. Then cash in the rest of the cents and add in next weeks $25 box and start over again. If you search half dollars it's the same thing only you get a better profit margin per coin but they are harder to find.

BTW, I also hate to leave the coin shop empty-handed

I am more of a binge guy. I might spend a few hundred in a month and then not spend anything the next month. I just recently restarted back into this hobby that I missed so I think it will settle down into more of a budget thing in a few months.

The coins that I am searching for are specific and don't come around that often so I buy em whenever I can...within a reasonable price.

A budget never worked for me really. I'll spend $50 one month then none the next...then $200 the next...then a 3 month hiatus.

I'm like the last two guys, with one minor exception. "Specific" doesn't describe how I choose coins - "pretty" does.

I save my change from my tips at work. Then after sorting through it and pulling what I find turn it into the bank. There is my coin budget. Normally $30 to $50 a week.

I try to budget myself at $20 when I visit the coin store. I haven't been in very often lately so the next time I go I'm sure I'll rationalize bumping that figure up.

I don't budget myself on bankrolls because I figure most of it goes back there anyway.

I have a coin budget, it is around $0. I do have a small allowance for things I find in my change, going to italy in march so will have to pick up all the new coins I find there, which are the new map euro coins, and perhaps buying the malta and cyprus sets. Apart from that I am flat beee-roke!

What is a budget?

I try to go by feel. Do I feel that I have spent too much this week/month? Do I feel like I can live with spending a little more? Do I feel like paying the mortgage this month?

I have tried to limit my spending. I even talk myself into stopping for a week or two but it does not work.

I don't smoke and I don't drink or anything like that. So I figure now and then I can splurge $50 here and there. BUT then when I get home I wonder if I really got a good buy--even though I look at the RedBook I still wonder. US newbies are good targets for some who want to make a good profits.
