If you live in, live near, have ever lived in Illinois or have relatives in or have lived in Illinois, you may be rich and not know it. Maybe not rich, but you could have some money coming and never know about how much or what it could be. The reason: Today the Chicago Tribune newspaper came out with their annual list of monetary items forgotten or abandoned in Illinois. They may be property, abandoned lockers or sheds or even houses and/or land. In many instances there are abandoned bank safe deposit boxes due to no one paying for them or just not available to answer request for payments. Regardless, the very large section of about 45 pages of very small print has virtually Billions of dollars worth of valuables that could be yours.
A similar listing is published periodically in that newspaper. This issue only contains info reported since August 2007. To search the state's entire database, visit https://www.treasurer.il.gov and follow the cash dash link.
Periodically there is an auction of all such items at the state of Illinois Building in the downtown area of Chicago. Lots and lots of coins from safe deposit boxes.

That is so ironic that you brought that up because we found my mother-in-law's name in the paper listed as someone who has an "undetermined amount" ready to claim. We filed the "Cash Dash Claim Form" and she will have to have her birth certificate, etc as proof of ID. and sent it to the Illinois State Treasurer's Office at the Unclaimed Property Division,PO BX 19495, Springfield, IL. We are awaiting further details--hope it's a ZILLION DOLLARS!

I'll see if I can find the link but every state has something like that.

The State of Kansas owes me around $200 but I haven;t gotten around to claiming it yet

Many people that know about this check that site every so often. My neighbor found his Dad's name there a few years ago and thought it was an error since he was dead for a long time. Ended up he prepaid for a safe deposit box for several years but it finally lapsed. Unfortunately nothing was in there.
Not sure how many never claim this but about once or twice a year in the State of Illinois building downtown Chicago main lobby, first floor they have an action for the left overs. Lots of coins. Usually the coin dealers jumpt on them first. About one block from H.J.Berk naturally.

ALL states have this, and they have some very "hen-house" ways of trying to learn your family history for 19 generations back!
I had a rich uncle, you can be sure he spent every cent of it to buy a casket, with safe-deposit boxes! He intended to take it with him! He did take me into consideration: He sent me a blank check, and said; "fill it in, and sent it to me, so I can sign it"! I haven't gotten an answer yet, buy I believe my uncle.

Justcarl, your question hit me below the belt! No, you didn't do anything wrong! I DID! I was moving to CA, and was "finished loading the )last U-haul van), and thought I had gotten everything. Months later, after having gone thru every bos, bag, every suit case, eeEVERYTHING! I still couldn't find my Mexican collection of crown/dollar sized coins. They were the profits from the grocery store I had in Mexico, for 5 years. They were in 1 Qt. fruit jars, because I didn't have anything else to use to store them. They never turned up anywhere!. Some months later my brother said he saw those jars of Mexican coins, and because they had de-valued the Peso, He figured they weren't worth keeping, and just LEFT THEM! No one knows, or will admit to knowing what happened to them. I get sick to my stomach, even today, when I think about it! That is whu I said your question was a low-blow! Now you can appreciate, and understand my situation. There were hundreds of them! After all thoose van-loads, I was getting very tired, and not thinking very clearly.

Whereabouts in Kansas are you from GO? I have lived in Ks my entire life. (Though I now live in Mo, about 100 yds from Ks.)
