The hard lines on Lincoln's profile is similar to that in the doubling shown on 1971S-1DO-002 from copper coins. I have a feeling that it is a decent example of MD. Report this Post to the Staff

On doubled dies up until 1990, you will not see any doubling on the mintmark unless the doubled die is paired with a rpm. Also the doubling is shelf like and it reduces the size of the devices. You can see the full shape there, but it is reduced by a bounce/hop/slide after the strike happened. Thus damaging the devices. I use the term machine damage because it all happens on one strike, the die movement damages those devices. Nothing is actually doubled, just damage. So I refer to this as machine damaged. Very common and adds no premium for this to true variety collectors. Report this Post to the Staff
