Hello everyone. I came across this 1958 D cent and the mint mark -- or rather, it's position in relation to the date -- caught my eye. It appears to be farther left, higher, and slightly slanted right (to where the top of the "D"'s loop is almost touching the "9" in the date) than a normal 1958 D mint mark.

My question: Is this a known error of some sort? The only error type I know of for this coin is an RPM, but the mark on this coin does not appear to be repunched.
Or is it simply a slightly skewed mark that that's not technically an error?
Or is it really not as different from normal "D" marks as I think it is?

Thank you for any help or insight you can provide.

- Rob

Mint marks were punched by hand then and could and do vary in location. Well within mint tolerance.

Agree, but must admit I've never seen a '58-D like this that I can remember in 50 years of collecting LWCs.

Remembering a MM location similar was posted not long ago, but am unsure if it to was 1958D.

Checked CC and found a similarly located example 1958D-1MM-037 where the MM is a RPM. Not saying your coin is a match, because I can't see it that clearly in the current pics. Just saying there are known examples that close to the date, Thanks, Doug.

I found one similar a few months ago. The MM on mine doesn't look crooked like yours though.

I found one that was 12 degrees angled from horizontal.

But they are acceptable. They are under the date and to the right of the bust and not on the edge.
