2.8g for a 1983 Denver Lincoln.
I am assuming of course that it is just a heavy Zinc (2.5-2.6g) and not just a lightweight Copper (3.1g) but...?
What do you think?

Either there's something stuck to the reverse or your balance is inaccurate. Does it correctly measure the expected 2.4-2.6 g range of several other zinc cents?

Maybe it was struck on a planchet meant for a foreign coin.
Maybe it is steel.
Maybe it got a double or triple copper plating in error.
Maybe it is the rare transitional 50%-50% copper zinc planchet.

There has been several 83 copper cents found. Is your coin normal thickness?

Tap it lightly as it rests on a fingertip or drop onto a hard surface from a low height. If it gives off a low "thunk",then it's zinc.

Check for plating bubbles. Early '83 coins are plagued with them.

I agree check for the "thunk' and if it isn't there than the next step would be a specific gravity test. It would definitely tell you if it is zinc or copper.
