Even if it's au details it's an $800 coin. If it's ms were talking a few thousand and up. You lucky devil. I find great stuff at estate sales all the time but my scores are usually spend $50 make $500-1k types. I once bought a pair of 30's art deco bronze wall sconces with original milk glass for $2 and sold them for $1600. If it comes back ms it's the best estate sale score I've seen. Congrats either way and we'll all be non-patiently waiting so you better send it to PCGS under express! And I wouldn't go anacs. This one needs to be in PCGS plastic or at least NGC. Hurry up!

I am going to start going to estate sales and yard sales again! You look at all their junk and then ask if they have any old coins in a jar you can look at. People who are doing these sales often are moving and want to sell everything. I have had people offer me a machine gun at a yard sale.

I've rarely had luck with coins but I have a great eye for value. I'm the mike Wolfe of estate sales. Haven't been to many in the lad few months but it's the down time anyway. Best ones are just after Xmas. A lot of old people kick the bucket after xmas. It's like they force themselves to wait and have one large holiday with family. And the best ones are ones that are rum by the family. The professional ones, usually a lady with a business license and a few helpers, tend to overpriced everything, always check ebay before they sticker stuff and bring in other stuff that hasn't sold on the part 3 estate sales she's done. Those ones you have to cultivate relationships with to get deals and that takes time. But if you hone your eye to be able to see value in things or like me, have an innate instinct, you can clean up. And boy is it fun but a drudge and sometimes you hut lulls where a good sale doesn't come around for weeks or months and other times you get s few good ones back to back and make a bundle. And to those saying "this can't happen" well let me tell you it certainly can especially if it was the family doing the sale. They just want to burn through everything and sell as much as they can. Remember, most people are idiots or don't want to deal with stuff etc. Op, curious, did they know it was a 3 legger? Was it marked in a 2x2 or something? What'd the story from when you saw it to asking about it to negotiating to closing the deal. Details please

Tough to tell if it's been cleaned or not... it may be just a bad flash or overexposure. Brilliant 'silver' is tough to photo, be it silver or nickel.
Slab it.

Yeah. Send it off to ANACS to authenticate and get a estimated grade of it. If the result is pleasing, send it off to NGC or PCGS for the actual "top tier" slab.

When I take my wife to these sales she drags home all sorts of crap. I told her if we buy something we then have to throw something out as a balance. Pawn shops and yard and estate sales are going to be on my list.

What's the story behind the coin & will you reveal how much you paid for it?

I came upon it at an estate sale. I feel like the man who had it was given it and that he didn't have much interest in coins because it was in a flip in his jewelry as if he had inherited it or was given it and threw it in his jewelry chest. The family also had no idea of its value. I offered $50 and that's all he really had in way of valuable coins. Someone said the photo provided was over exposed, I took a low quality one with my phone, does this make it easier to tell if it was cleaned or not really? Sending it out Monday.

I saw what I believe is a fake coin on another forum. It was a raw coin that appeared to me from photo to have been altered. This person bought it cheap as well. People use some sort of tool or process to make the fourth leg disappear. I am not saying this is so in this case, but until it is authenticated I would be so careful. Many people know that 3 legged Buffalo nickel is valuable and all you have to do to the 37-D is somehow make the fourth leg seem to disappear in a photo and sell it fairly cheap. I have a graded 3 legged coin and it looks different that all the raw coins I have seen.
