Hi all, am glad I have place to ask people things about coins I have and Don't know much about. My sister left me her coins when she passed. I have been looking at them and I have one that just don'r look right. Maybe someone can help. I will try and post pic using my phone, but I am as new to that as I am to the form. Thank you, and I hope to build some good friends. By way the coin dose not have a Reese's Edge?

and can't really tell 100% from your pictures, but it seems like it is pretty damaged. I have gone through many rolls of halves and have seen a few so damaged the reeding is gone and has those marks.

Many Kennedy half dollars were used, some for many years, in casinos in certain slot machines. This tended to beat the reading off of the edges. I see this on a lot of halves from the late 80's / early 90's

Yep. what you have here is a pretty beat up half. Anytime you have a question about any coin, just post it on here, the more you stay here and read, the more you will learn. Good luck with that collection.

The outside edge have what we call reeds. This was probably removed. If it were not there when it was struck, then it would probably be wider than a normal half dollar. Kind of like this:

This is caused by not having the collar in place. The reeds come from the inside edge of the collar. The collar adds the reeds and keeps the coin circular. Yous looks circular and missing the reeds, so it was probably altered.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

So what type of coins did your sister collect?

She left you the coins, the coins had you find us, those who would be most interested in them.

I am guessing there is a good story here about her coins or her in general.

Never give out personal information or the like, but fishing here for information.

Care to bite, or at least give me a nibble?

Thank you all. See told you I was new. I'm glad I didn't disappoint. Don't ask. don't learn. Right. I was asked by Buckeye CoinGuy what kind of coins my sister left. She worked in bars and 7-11 so that's were she got them. I have a lot of Walking Liberty's, Kennedy's, dime's, so on. So as I get to go through them I'll be back. Thank you.
