This is why you shouldn't buy expensive things on ebay or online. Go for Stacks and Bowers or Heritage.

The life cycle of a fake can include many unsuspecting middlemen. I suggest that we refrain from jumping on the seller. Innocent until proven guilty. If he relists it....That's a different story.

If the coin shop where the ebay seller claims the fake was legitimately purchased from, located in the US and in business since 1967, is unable to recognize a counterfeit NGC slab, that's even more alarming.

'Not today' reminds me of a line from the movie 'Battleship'. Hint: after the anchor is dropped while underway.
Now I think I'm hungry for a chicken burrito.......

wildflowerAB- I agree with what you say but on the other hand, do you not think it suspicious when a Coin Shop sells a 1oz. gold bullion coin for what must have been less than half the going price of gold? I'm sure the seller didn't buy it at full bullion rate and was selling it for less than half. I'm not accusing anybody, just voicing my suspicions.

@ JimmyD. Perhaps fraudulent experiences within the public sector have jaded my opinion, but in this example if I had been interested in buying, the story and profile of the ebay seller raises red flags for me and I'll try to explain my reasoning. 14 star rating, ebay acct only opened March 2016. 7 sales, all less than $50 including 2 Lowe gift cards and the rest all HCMI media streamers. http://feedback.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAP...backAsSellerNo other coins whatsoever.....so I'm left wondering what would motivate a person in Florida to innocently buy a 1 oz Gold maple leaf from a coin shop - discount or not, then sell it on ebay? Just my habit maybe, but whenever I buy on ebay I take a close look at who I might be buying from and in this example the selling history along with a $2000+ Cdn gold coin definitely don't jive. Yesterday after the fake item was removed, the seller changed their ebay name. Now that seems odd as well. it's not unusual for a con artist to establish a profile, whether it be on kijiji, ebay or in person, of someone happening upon an item that they know nothing about -- knowing full well that it may lead a potential buyer to believe they'll get a $teal of a deal, so to speak. A reverse con, I suppose one could say. It's also utterly common for a fraudster to lay blame on a credible business or company to legitimize their story but in the instance of a counterfeit coin and holder, I'd presume that forging paper receipts would be simple child's play. All my opinion only - I know nothing about the coin shop. Regardless I'm glad this ebay item is gone but where there's one, there's probably more....

These "coins" are being sold bulk from some Chinese site I found the exact coin being sold and they are all slabbed. It appears over 62 coins have sold. I feel bad for all the people getting ripped on these.

@vancoinguy
I tried to email you, but you do not accept email, so here it is....
When I was new here, I did not know that this board does not allow the naming of a certain Chinese online venue known for selling counterfeits, and I got scolded.
If you act quickly, you can edit your post, but if not, a board mod will do it for you.

Our dishonest little friend is back at it. Here is his latest attempt at fleecing people, ebay item: 282092089413. Why doesn't ebay ban his IP address? Eventually, he will win and unload this on someone.
