The typical modus operandi....open an ebay account, buy a few real cheap items to get a limited star rating, appears not quite so suspicious as "0", then list the counterfeit for sale. @ JGG There's free wifi everywhere, IP address is associated to a location. That's different from the MAC address, which is associated to the actual device but I doubt ebay has access to that sort of information. I agree with you, someone is going to get burned and who wants to bet that anyone who asks a question gets an offer for a quick sale, to buy one under the table for even a lower price than the start price of this auction. If a scammer has one, usually they have more...

Quote: IP address is associated to a location That's becoming more and more untrue every day. Mobile IPs often show in Kansas, dead center of the US because there is no location associated with the IP, and are shared by many. Androids more and more use Google Cloud IPs, untraceable to a location and shared by many. Some ISPs like AOL use proxy IPs. IP changes every pageload. We could have 20 AOL users on here with the same IP. Ban the IP and you ban all AOL users when they land on that proxy. With just a little knowledge IPs can also be easily spoofed. They are just not reliable. And you're right, ebay has no access to MAC addresses.

Yes, proxies, also free apps offering anonymity. That people use this stuff not knowing anything whatsoever about the anonymous server they've authorized all their data to flow through, dumb, dumb, dumb in my opinion. However I didn't know that IP addresses can be spoofed. Yikes. What an incredibly tangled and complicated web it must be for police to sift through incidents related to serious cyber crimes and associated criminal evidence.
Bobby, thanks for adding your insight, of course in addition to appreciation for all the time and energy that you invest to do what you can to protect the hobby. Your kind of volunteer dedication is a great example to us all.

Same seller - hollyexchange2015 Too late for this US $20 gold coin that did sell, as the buyer has already left feedback. I notice the barcode of the ebay sale does not match that of the NGC photo, aside from the flat, washed out appearance. It would be real good if the buyer might notice he or she got scammed and file a police report on the seller. ebay: 142058518197NGC https://www.NGCcoin.com/certlookup/3378104-010/

Yet another fake gold maple on ebay. Someone must be making or importing these from Florida because they keep showing up there. ebay item: 262704078175First picture is the real coin from the NGC website. The second coin is the ebay fake. Just compare where the bar codes line up to the certification numbers on each coin. Someone needs to help me here and report this to the RCM, because I have seen about a dozen of these fakes for sale on ebay over the past year.
