I tried to tone a quarter today in the oven, however it didn't work how I thought it would. I wrapped it in foil and put it in the oven for around 10 minutes at 450 degrees. Does anyone else know a good way to tone a coin? I'm only going to be doing this to quarters.

Of course there is no nefarious intent here but while you're at it do you know a good way to copy dollar bills?

I have had some luck retoning copper on the stove heating element-at low heat. I may add that I have done this for otherwise cleaned and ruined coins, I hasten to add, just to see how it looks. It may take some time at low heat, try it for 20 minutes, then 40, then an hour and monitor the progress. Perhaps take the foil off?
