That is up to debate, and which denom you are talking about. For me, I am trying to find older pennies that are RB and in MS condition, those I put in flips to safeguard their condition. When I find clipped pennies I normally put them all in a roll, unless they are odd, multiple clips, large clips etc.

For dimes/quarters, silver I pull is all just stored in rolls unless its a rare date, or proof/specimen etc.

Flips can cost less than a few pennies if bought in bulk, so really its up to you

I guess I just can't decide if I want to put my pennies in plastic rolls or flips or should I do both.
For the past 6 months (the beginning of collecting) I've been putting some of them in flips. The others I store in other places.

It actually depends on what kind of storage you prefer I guess.

I've got an album for some world silver coins that I put in 2x2 flips but the major part of my collection is stored in Safe Beba maxi boxes. One of these boxes contains 10 trays and each tray, depending on the type contains between roughly 60 and 100 coins.

I do want to get a coin in my hands from time to time which is why I do not really prefer flips ;)

I put every coin I like into flips, don't really have a criteria other than that. Flips are quite inexpensive.

@Cascade - had I not asked the question I too read it just like you did.

It is a good question. Perhaps I should ask about that too.

I actually wondered which "flip" it would be.

If the coins are keepers and you want to look at them from time to time, put them in flips.

If you are saving (or hoarding) in bulk, stuff you may want to look through and sort sometime down the road, then keeping them in rolls would be fine.

Could depend on the coin. For example the Mercury dime. To fill an Album you would need 80 of them. If in flips, that's 80 flips. At about .03 each that would be about $2.40. An Album would be about $25+. Those would also fit in 2 plastic rolls at about $.25 each. Just depends on what you like.

I used to put any decent shape old coin I found in a flip, now I look a little closer and only put what I grade mid 60s or higher in a flip. I know the cents KenKat gave away went in a flip without a human touch. :)

I don't mess with flips unless the coin is worth more than a few dollars. They take up more space than loose or rolled coin.
