Hi. I need your help identifying this medieval Italian coin. It was sold to me as a Sicilian coin from the time of the Norman conquest (11th or 12th Century). The diameter is about 19mm and the mass is 2.3 g. As you can see, it is a copper alloy, with something like " _ M M O P I you S" on the obv and what looks like a crosses and fleur de lis in quarters on the rev. Or not, I'm not sure... This doesn't feel like Norman Sicily to me--no Kuffic or Arabic scripts.

Any ideas? Does the PIUS refer to a Pope maybe?

Bob your the man. Interesting coin. Going to have to move it over to the World Coin section, just beyond the cut off date.
