I think it is a doubled die.Definetely not MD . You could shoot John Wexler an email and see his thoughts.

Not your typical MD. Thinking more like the die bounced or stuttered maybe. Thanks, Doug.

John: I don't think it's a DDOAbraded Die (IMHO)

Sorry, looks like MD to me. The one on CC is short and not all over the coin like yours.

This die has actually been studied quite a bit. Here is a link to John Wexler's thoughts on the die: http://doubleddie.com/144864.htmlI agree with Wexler's conclusion, I believe the anomalies are to be the result of die abrasion doubling and not hub doubling. But it's still a cool study coin and worth keeping.

John - I think a couple things going on here, but I do think it is DDO. I found one similar a few months back that coop helped to vet, and it was DDO. Mine didn't have the artifact above LIBERTY though but did have action around the 9 and 7. When I get the chance, I will look better at LIBERTY on my specimen.

I browsed the link and took a look at the Cherrypicker's guide. Seems as noted here that most folks are leaning towards die fatigue and other 'abberations'. My cent is different, but more similar to listings at Wexler's site.
Eitherway, Cherrypicker's notes that this coin, due to its 'character' is still collectable. AU specimens are still worth by their listing at $13. Fun find either way!

Interesting article. I think John1's example is in better condition than the one published. That shows its not a one time event. If the experts once listed it DDO, and then some recant may mean it could be thought as DDO by some still and or relisted in the future by the others. Abrading the die (though not impossible) in such a pronounced, but two different ways (liberty and the date) leaves me with more future thinking on this one. Thanks, Doug.
