I wanted to know if it is possible to tell if this coin is a real one. After cleaning it, it has a silvery metallic finish.

@alan, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm going to ask the mods to move your post to the US classic coins area as that is the most appropriate spot to ask this question. Third, I'm highly concerned that you have a cast fake.

edit [in fact, now that I look closely, the word "COPY" is on the reverse of your "coin". It is 100% fake. SOrry 'bout that.]

Thanks. I never saw the word copy until now. It is a good thing I found this coin, and didn't buy it.

In one respect it is a good thing it is a copy, and a good learning experience. With aggressive cleaning like that it would have really killed the value of the coin if it had been genuine.
