Not as confident as I would like to be. Honestly slabbed graded coins makes a person lazy as someone else has done the homework. And most of what I owned were MS62 to 65 so I haven't seen many AU or below.
I mean I see 1893-S on ebay for 200 not certified and just assume it is a fake but pictures are the easiest thing to fake and all I see on ebay are pictures. Are there a lot of fakes in common date coins that sell for $25 or less?
But I also know things happen I used to collect knives and saw a nice Scagel starting at $10. I sent her a note and told her to get it appraised a bunch of other people were offering her $150-250 to end it early. I think it went for $10,000. I myself got a nice late 1800's Sheffield Manson dirk someone had listed as a Masonic dagger for $50 that I traded for a $400 dagger I wanted. But coins I don't know as well
Also with antique knives I had an expert I could show the auction to and for $5 get an experts opinion. Now $5 for a $25 coin is different than $5 for a $500 knife but after a few years I could tell almost all the fkes a mile away
