Shopper shot in Brooklyn Mall robbery
http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/N...ery-20160707

Quote:
Pretoria - A shopper was shot and injured when he tried to apprehend three criminals who had robbed a Scoin shop at the Brooklyn Mall on Thursday of R1m in gold coins.

"Three suspects entered the mall and went to the coin shop and robbed it," police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said.

Definitely not very smart move on the customer's part to try to stop armed thugs.

Have to admit when I'm shopping at a LCS I'm a bit nervous about situations like this. There have been several customers killed by robbers in the past few years in coin shops.
Rest in Peace

More sad news.

All these robberies have made me rethink how I shop for coins. I feel like I should start calling ahead to make an appointment at my local coin shop.

I have not been to an LCS in years, but the coin shows I attend have no shortage of law enforcement officers keeping us safe.

Thanks for the clarification teslacoil. Is there many coin shops in SA? I've only seen a handful of collectors from South Africa on various forums over the last few years.

Thanks,

Odd, police say three suspected robbed the shop, the store manager say there were two armed criminals that entered. Was it two or three? Maybe the third stayed outside as a lookout.

My LCS/bullion dealer are armed to the teeth. Each employee has an open carry handgun on their person and there are always at least two shotguns in plain sight behind the counter. It was kind of unnerving at first, but you get used to it. Although with that much firepower, I wouldn't want to be be around when the lead starts flying.
