I believe honesty is the best policy.
I am truly a coin collector. I'm after more than the silver coins, though I consider the silver coins special because they remind me of my grandfather and the coin collection he shared with me before he passed away.
I recently deposited about $2,500 in halves at a bank. I called ahead and confirmed the bank would accept a large amount of loose halves, as in about $2K worth. They said as long as I had an account with them, they had a coin counter, so it would not be a problem.
The next day I brought in the coins and the teller asked me where I got all of them. I gave an honest answer in that I had ordered them from a local credit union. The teller was very cordial and didn't even ask me if I had an account at her bank. She said there were other people who brought in a lot of coins from time to time, so I was not the only one. She brought out a cart on which I placed my buckets of halves, and asked me to have a seat while she ran the coins through the coin counter. When she returned she asked if I would like to deposit the coins or have cash. I asked for cash, which she politely counted out, and handed me my empty buckets.
Then I asked her is I could buy her a coffee or something as a thank you for dealing with the heavy, noisy coins. She genuinely appreciated my offer, but told me handling the coins was simply part of her job, and it was no problem, so she declined my offer. I admit she was an attractive lady, which was an additional bonus :)
Again, I believe honesty is the best policy.
