Hi guys I'm back out of the hospital.

I looked at this coin today and liked it but then I noticed something, If you can help me out with it would be much appreciated.

I think its a fake. The reverse has very little grass near the roo, I think I have seen these fakes before. It definitely don't look right to me but I know very little about them other than what I have picked up mainly here.

Hope I'm wrong . ebay item number: 322189468667

Impossible to confirm from pictures alone, but the metallic sheen and slight mushiness of detail on this particular coin suggests pressure cast fake to me. Not even the slightest hint of radial lustre, even in the lettering.

Close comparative visual examination with a genuine Florin of the same type would be of great value.
Would like to see a close up of the edge milling.
Needs weight confirmed, test with a magnet, and comparative rig tone test with a genuine sterling silver Florin. These tests will help with picture diagnosis.

Always better to examine any coin in hand before buying.

A problem with ebay: an intending buyer can't do these things!
Helps to explain why more fakes, thought to be genuine, wind up with an honest collector, who is slow to do all of the due diligence required.

Big stakes here; a genuine '32 Florin in this condition would be valued at well over $1,000.

And there some damned good fakes out there, that can pass most tests!

Thanks se;, I agree with what you say entirely, I new about most of what you said but never thought of a magnet, Surely they not that stupid to make it from a ferrous metal. But I guess why not I never thought of it LOL.

I was more worried about the lack of grass buy the roo it seems very small and blank. I'm sure I either read something about this particular fake or seem something about it.

I got my other 32 out (not as good as the one in the photo)and it does seem to have more grass.

Sel I have racked my brain trying to remember where I seen this about the 32 fakes and the grass not being complete.

I'm sure it was on this site or another I go to and it was something to do with the way it is copied from an original.

Some sort of electronic etching process or something and it tends to leave out details , Or maybe it was the Melbourne florin. I'm not sure my mind and memory are not what it use to be I'm getting on in years now. But I do remember something a long those lines.

Normally if you have a "Gut Feeling" about a coin then go with it.
If you think this is fake then don't buy it

Arr I think I found where I seen it. https://www.sterliNGCurrency.com.au...se-dud-coins

Very good info about a lot of Chinese copies.

And yes it says a varied difference in the reads on reverse on the fake 1932 florin.

nealeffendi, you are right I took another look that leg is virtually missing. I never spotted that , I was concerned about the lack of grass near the roo. it looked to open and blank. That's what alerted me but yes now I see the leg its definitely not an original.

Hope everything is OK and your back to full health.

The fakes are improving with each batch, getting to the stage where key dates will have to be slabbed to give the punter some security on his/her purchase but faking the slab itself has started so not sure where it will all end up.

The crook gives a location of Bossley Park. That is a suburb of Sydney. Currently I have noticed at least 2 sellers with suburbs within 3 miles of Bossley Park that are selling fake coins (1932 florins). One is called cardrifterr (Edensor Park) and another is fade_to_blak (Wakeley). They may all be the same seller using friends/relatives addresses to pull this scam.
There are also any number of fake crowns (1937 and 1938), Centenary florins, 1933 shillings etc on ebay.
Also they may post images of real coins but send you...(I got caught buying a nice Centenary for $300, got sent a registered letter with a razor slit to simulate that the coin was stolen in the postal system that only contained a copy of the postal insurance to make it easy for me to make a postal insurance claim and it took 5 months and lodging a police report before Paypal refunded my money, I only won because I could prove that the image on ebay was lifted from a dealers website)
Look for sellers who claim they know nothing about coins, sellers who claim they inherited it, sellers who claim they purchased it from a dealer 15 years ago, sellers who are selling on behalf of some charity or elderly friend. All scams. They also usually have low feedback, or feedback that is as buyers and not sellers, or feedback that is old (hijacked dormant account). Also look for images of the sellers different coins that were not taken by the same camera as that may indicate swiped images. Caveat Emptor.

Thanks Neil I shall try keep that in mind.

And thank you basil for your concerns, I'm Ok , I'm getting on now in years and a few of the usual health issues are starting to show I'm afraid. But I'm not throwing in the towel life is to precious and the alternative isn't where I want to be just yet.

Thank you guys.
